A large storm system is expected to bring heavy rain tonight and Monday across the Carolinas, and on the backside of the low pressure, mountain snow showers are expected.
The showers and storms are expected to increase through the evening hours and the rain could be heavy at times. While widespread flooding is not expected, some areas might see flash flooding in the foothills and western piedmont tomorrow morning. 1-2 inches of rain is expected for most areas in the Carolinas. Lower amounts are expected in eastern NC.
Behind the cold front, a robust northwest snowfall event is expected in the mountains as winds increase Monday morning. The snow is expected to continue through Tuesday morning. Highest elevations in upslope favored areas are expected to receive 4-8 inches of snow, with locally higher amounts likely. Downslope areas are expected to receive 1-3 inches of snow in the mountains. No accumulations are expected outside the mountains.
