Hurricane Delta made landfall today along the Yucatan Peninsula and now is entering the Gulf of Mexico.
As of Wednesday afternoon, the storm was a category 2 with winds of 105. Delta rapidly strengthened into a major hurricane before weakening this morning into a still powerful category 2 hurricane. The track brings Delta into the Gulf of Mexico.
The current track brings Delta northward towards the Louisiana and east Texas coastline on Friday as a major hurricane. After landfall, the storm is forecasted to interact with a cold front, which is expected to push moisture eastward towards the Carolinas on Saturday and Sunday.
Right now, the best rain chances are expected to be in the mountains, foothills, and western piedmonts. These locations could see around an inch of rain, with higher amounts possible in upslope favored areas.
