Rain is returning to the Carolinas for Wednesday and Thursday; however, the heaviest rain will be located along and east of I-95 in the coastal areas of NC.
Showers are expected to develop Wednesday afternoon in eastern NC along a stalled frontal boundary. The showers and storms increase during the overnight hours as the system becomes better organized.
A secondary piece of energy is expected to move into western NC Thursday, which may bring isolated showers to the mountains, foothills, and piedmont. Rain totals will be light, but the skies are expected to be mostly cloudy on Thursday.
The GFS computer model shows the upper level energy interacting with the coastal front on Thursday and moving northward into the northeast.
The heaviest rain totals are expected to be east of I-95, which is closer to the best moisture. A half of an inch to an inch of rain is possible east of I-95. As you move into western NC, rain totals are expected to be under a tenth of an inch.
