A powerful cold front that has resulted in numerous severe thunderstorms across the deep south is moving towards the Carolinas and is expected to bring the chance of severe weather.
The Storm Prediction Center has placed many areas along and west of I-77 in an ENHANCED risk of severe weather. The greatest threat from this system will be damaging winds. Any of these storms have the potential to produce winds of 60-90 mph. Isolated tornadoes and large hail are possible as well. There will be enough energy aloft and spin in the atmosphere that a few storms may produce tornadoes this afternoon.
It is important to be weather aware today. Be sure to stay tuned to the National Weather Service and your local weather outlets for any watches or warnings that may be posted later today. As a reminder, a watch means that severe weather is possible and a warning means to take shelter immediately because the severe weather is happening now. Remember, Watch is Possible, Warning is NOW!
